BREAK OUT THE CRISCO AND GET YOUR POLE GREASED, Big Dick Nick and the Ski mask gang are back committing highway robbery (although I-95 construction is a real bitch). In a MUST-win game at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles held off the talented Texans 30-32 to keep their playoff hopes alive. Nick Foles and Zach Ertz both had record-setting days with Foles tossing an Eagles franchise-record 471 yards through the air (with 4 TDs) and Ertz hauling in 12 catches for 110 yards and 2 scores to break the NFL’s single-season receptions record for a TE (prev. Jason Witten, 2014, 110 catches). After a few costly turnovers and the resurrection of St. Nick (I shit you not, Nate Sudfeld threw a pass in this game), Jake Elliott booted a 35 yarder as time expired to seal the victory.
KEYS TO VICTORY:
- Spreading the Love
Nine different receivers caught the football today, with the bulk coming from Sproles, Agholor, Jeffery, and Ertz (384, 4 TDs). Sproles made several big plays using his run-after-catch skillset and Agholor hauled in a monster touchdown grab over Texans S Tyrann Mathieu for 83 yards. Believe it or not, this receiving unit is pretty deep, so it’s important we get everyone involved heading into the playoffs.
- Protecting The Quarterback
Aside from a Jadeveon Clowney strip-sack at the Eagles 5-yard line, the Eagles big men held down the fort. Jason Peters left early in the game and was replaced again by Hal Vaitai (you’re out of your fuckin mind if you think I’m spelling that) who filled in nicely. The real unsung hero is RT Lane Johnson who completely dominated All-Pro DE JJ Watt all game. By protecting the quarterback, Foles was able to stay on his feet and make impact plays with his arm.
- Staying Aggressive
Coach Doug Pederson wrote a book this offseason detailing his aggressive attitude and the contents of his enlarged scrotum. That’s his coaching style, and he stuck to it, going 4-for-4 on 4th down. Knowing that this team can make plays on all four downs can really help them into the postseason
Now we must see if Khalil Mack and the Chicago Bears can defeat the Minnesota Vikings making a desperate push for the postseason after the Seahawks just clinched a spot. Right now we are sure of two things: Nick Foles is a baller and my liver cannot handle another party down Broad Street.
