1. Los Angeles Rams (3-0)
Fresh of a W in the battle of LA, the Rams stay at the top of my power rankings. They defeated the Chargers 35-23 and the offense was once again amazing. Jared Goff was 29/36 for 354 yards, 3 TD and 1 INT. Todd Gurley rushed 23 times for 105 yards and caught 5 passes for 51 yards. Robert Woods (104 yards, 2 TDs), Brandin Cooks (90 yards) and Cooper Kupp (71 yards, 1 TD) all had very good days. The defense took a hit however. Offseason additions Marcus Peters and Aquib Talib both lef the game, Peters with a calf injury and Talib with an ankle injury. Losing both of them is a big hit so we will see how the defense responds. They have a tough game against the Vikings this week.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)
The Chiefs dominated the 49ers and kept their #2 spot on the list. Patrick Mahomes has quieted all his doubters and continues to dominate, he was 24/38 for 314 yards and 3 TDs. Mahomes now has 13 TDs in the first 3 games of the season, which is the record. This offense is firing on all cylinders and has put up 118 points in 3 games. Mahomes couldn’t look better and he has a plethora of great weapons on offense, so I don’t see this electric offense slowing down anytime soon. The defense leaves some question marks, but the offense makes up for it. This week they travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1)
In the return of Carson Wentz, the Eagles picked up a 20-16 W against the Colts that, much like Week 1 for the Eagles, wasn’t pretty but it was a win. Wentz (25/37, 255 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) opened the game up with a great drive ending in a TD to rookie TE Dallas Goedert. The rust showed in the second half, but this was his first game in nine months, rust was expected. The important thing was he looked like the same old Carson, extending plays with his legs and not being scared. The Eagles were missing Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles and Alshon Jeffrey so they still are not at full firepower. The defense held the Colts to 1/5 in the red zone and were mostly solid except a couple of (questionable) pass interference calls. This week they hit the road to take on the Titans.
4. New Orleans Saints (2-1)
The Saints picked up a huge W in OT against the Falcons 43-37, and with that they make their debut on the power rankings. Drew Brees had an amazing game: 39/49, 396 yards and 5 TOT TDs. He also became the NFL’s all-time completion leader. Alvin Kamara also had a great week with 16 carries, 66 rushing yards, 15 catches and 124 receiving yards. Michael Thomas also caught 10 catches on 10 targets for 129 yards. Thomas and Brees have been a killer duo this year. The only worry is the defense, who has let up 103 points in 3 games this year. This week they head to Metlife to take on the Giants.
5. Minnesota Vikings (1-1-1)
Yes, the Vikings did get SMACKED by the Bills 27-6 Week 3, I still think they are one of the best teams in the league. This was a trap game and the Vikings fell right into the trap. Josh Allen played amazing and the Vikings offense just couldn’t score. Cousins was 40/55 for 296 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. They were without Dalvin Cook and it showed. They ran the ball 6 times for 14 yards. Adam Thielen also had 14 catches for 105 yards. So the Vikings did struggle this week, but they are still one of the best teams in the NFL. This week they have the Thursday Night matchup against my #1 team, the LA Rams.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)
Like the Vikings, the Jags are coming off a loss, not quite as bad but every loss sucks. The defense was good, but the offense was very bad this week. The offense is what will hold this team back if they can’t be more consistent. Blake Bortles had 155 yards with no TDs. The offense only amounted 242 total yards and TJ Yeldon led the team in rushing and receiving yards with 44 and 46. I do still believe they are a good team. With that being said the offense isn’t great but when Fournette is playing and Bortles is slightly better, they will be good enough to be carried by that great defense. This week they take on the Jets at home.
7. New England Patriots (1-2)
The Patriots are fresh off a bad loss to the Detroit Lions but never count this team out. Tom Brady struggled in this game, he was 14/26 for 133 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. The good news is they will be getting help at WR soon. Josh Gordon most likely will play this week and Week 5 they will be getting Julian Edelman back from suspension. With these guys playing Brady will have some more weapons to throw to. Sony Michele also could become a solid RB on that team, I like his potential. I expect a huge bounce back week from the Pats this week in a huge game against the undefeated Miami Dolphins at home.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1-1)
The Steelers picked up their first W of the season Week 3 against the Bucs on the road, and it was a big win for them. Big Ben was 30/38 with 353 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. James Connor has continued to be solid, picking up 95 total yards on 20 touches. JuJu Smith-Schuster had 9 catches 116 yards, Antonio Brown had 6 catches for 50 yards and 1 TD and Vance McDonald had 4 catches for 112 yards, 1 TD and a HUGE stiff-arm that led to his TD. Defense for the Steelers was solid, picking off Fitzpatrick 3 times in the game. The Bucs almost fought back but came up just short. All around huge win for the Steelers. They have a divisional matchup coming up this week at home against the Ravens.
9. Miami Dolphins (3-0)
The Dolphins are currently in sole possession of the AFC East and undefeated, who would’ve saw that coming? The Dolphins have not really been tested yet though. They beat the Titans, Jets and Raiders, all of which are decent at best. This upcoming week they will face the Patriots and this is a huge game for both teams. Ryan Tannehill has been very solid this year so far, and against the Raiders he was 17/23, 289 yards and 3 TDs. There isn’t much to say about this team yet other than, we will find out if they are for real this week.
10. Carolina Panthers (2-1)
The Panthers picked up a W last week against a solid Bengals team and they get the last spot on the list. They are very solid on both sides of the ball. Their defense struggles in the red zone and that’s their biggest flaw. Last week Cam Newton was 15/24 for 150 yards (rushed for 36 also) and 2 TDs. Christian McCaffrey has been a beast so far this year, in that game he had 28 carries, 184 rushing yards, and 10 receiving yards. He is one of the best dual-threat RBs in the league. They are an all around solid team. This week they will play the Giants at home.
