Eagles Sign Jordan Matthews

Everyone is well aware of the Eagles current problem at the WR position. Alshon Jeffrey is still day-to-day, Mike Wallace fractured his fibula Week 2 and Mack Hollins is on the IR with a groin injury. Week 2 the Eagles had Josh Perkins and Kamar Aiken out there, and that just won’t do it.

A lot of people wanted the Eagles to target troubled Browns WR Josh Gordon. However, the Patriots traded a conditional 5th round pick for him. Everyone in this city wanted Howie to get a healthy, star WR who has no off the field issues and won’t cost too much, easy right?

So yesterday it was announced that Jordan Matthews was spotted at the Eagles NovaCare Complex working out for the team. He also had a physical and MRI. The opinions of fans were split down the middle on brining him back. In his 3 years with the Eagles Matthews racked up 250 receptions, 2,673 yards and 19 TDs. Before the 2017 season Matthews was traded to the Buffalo Bills for CB Ronald Darby. Since then, Matthews has had his fair share of injuries. He suffered a sternum fracture during his first practice with the Bills, a thumb fracture Week 4, he had surgeries for a knee tear and grade 2 ankle sprain that had been around for a while later in the year. After the 2017 season the Patriots signed Matthews but he suffered a “significant” hamstring injury and was released.

With all this said, I like the signing. The fans want someone to come and help NOW, as in this upcoming Sunday. Who better than a guy who knows the offense and has a great relationship with the QB, Carson Wentz. Matthews comeback may mean Nelson Agholor will have to move back outside after thriving in the slot, but I’m not worried and think Nelson is ready to produce anywhere on the field. Matthews was the option that made the most sense. It won’t cost the team too much and like I said, he can make the most immediate impact considering he knows the offense.
