NBA Teams That Are Turning Back The Clock

We live in a era where NBA teams are trying too hard to design uniforms for everyone to enjoy; especially last season with NIKE having their swoosh mark on the authentic jerseys. There are die-hard fans, like myself, to see all NBA teams to have an alternate uniform dedicated to a past uniform the organization have worn. Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic are bringing back some of the fan favorites back on the court. Let’s analyze each throwback uniform that will be worn again for the 2018-2019 NBA season.

1.) Orlando Magic

The Magic will go back to the 90’s and will wear the away uniforms this upcoming season. These jersey’s were notably worn back in 1994-1998 when the Magic had a great run with notable players such as Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway. The uniform looks 99% accurate to the original uniform besides one part; the Magic word-mark is added on the waistband. Don’t get me wrong, the uniforms still look beautiful. I am looking forward to Aaron Gordan and Mo Bamba to rock these uniforms once the NBA season kicks off next month.

2.) Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers finally brought back the throwback uniforms that were worn back in 1980’s when Magic Johnson and James Worthy were apart of the “Showtime Era.” The organization finally brought back the famous letter font to refer to the team’s history. The two takeaways that the Laker’s should’ve thought over again was adding more horizontal side shadow to the number. As well as, the black piping on the Laker’s Statement jerseys. I would’ve been very happy if the front office did a better job making the number hard to tell if the jersey was from the 1980’s

The Minnesota Timberwolves absolutely killed it with the throwback jersey their bringing back this season. The jerseys were worn for about 12 seasons – 1996 to 2008 – while “The Big Ticket” aka Kevin Garnett was in his prime at the time when the Timberwolves were on one of the best runs in the franchise’s history. Now that the Timberwolves are a playoff-caliber team again with Karl Anthony Towns, Jimmy Butler and Andrew Wiggins leading the way, it was mandated that the organization had to bring these jerseys.

Here are some teams that NEED to bring back their famous uniforms

  1. Philadelphia 76ers 97-98 uniform
  2. Phoenix Suns 92-93 uniform
  3. Toronto Raptors 95-96 uniform
  4. Detroit Pistons 96-97 uniform
  5. Denver Nuggets 92-93 uniform
  6. Sacramento Kings 94-95 uniform
  7. Memphis (Vancouver) Grizzlies  95/96 uniforms

Although NBA teams are slowly bringing back popular uniforms from the past, I still believe that the NBA should require teams to have a throwback uniform each season to reminisce about the past. They’re a number of teams that should hop on the – throwback uniforms-  bandwagon that NBA fans are waiting to see. After all, I’m happy to see teams like the Magic and Timberwolves doing this. I hope this is just a reminder for the rest of the league that we still are nostalgic about the uniforms worn back then.
