Jalen Ramsey, currently my favorite non-Eagle in the league. Ramsey plays every single snap with hunger, determination and, his greatest asset, confidence. Before the season starts I would like to let it be known he is my pick for 2018 DPOY.
In just two years Jalen Ramsey has taken the league by storm. In my opinion, and the opinion of many, he is currently the best CB in the NFL. In his first two seasons Ramsey has played all 16 games both seasons, has 107 total tackles, 6 interceptions and 31 passes defended. Pretty good stats for a corner in his first two seasons in the NFL.
In the first paragraph I said Ramsey’s greatest asset was his confidence. His second greatest asset is the players around him. Football is obviously one of the most team oriented sports and the Jags have a phenomenal defense, definitely top three in the league. The Jaguars defense is made up of: AJ Bouye, Myles Jack, Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson, Yannick Ngakoue and Dante Fowler Jr. That is quite a defense. Having such a good team around you takes the pressure off you. Ramsey and Bouye are for sure the best CB duo in the league, no matter which way you throw the ball it’s in danger of being picked off by one of them.
This offseason Ramsey has been taking shots at multiple QB’s around the league. Calling people like Eli Manning and Joe Flacco trash. He’s showing off that confidence that he has in himself, daring these guys to throw at him this year, because as you can see when you watch a Jaguars game, he doesn’t get tried many times.
I love Jalen’s game, I love how he doesn’t even put his mouthpiece in because he’s too busy talking shit. I love that because he backs up the talk with his amazing play. His talk also gets into people’s heads. Look at AJ Green for example, he usually stays out of trouble but when the Bengals and Jaguars played Green was pushed over the limit by Ramsey and started a fight with him in the 2nd quarter. When asked about it after the game Ramsey said, “I told him almost every play he was weak, that he was soft…. Told him his time was almost up, that it was easy, which it was. He had 1 catch for 6 yards. I was just out there spittin’ facts to him.” I could keep going but you get the point. He is confident in himself and is not afraid to let whoever he’s guarding know it, over and over and over again.
I expect Ramsey to grow even more this year and be an even better player, which is scary for the rest of the league. He is so young and will only get better as he grows. I think his play and the players around him will lead to him having another great, Pro Bowl year, and he will win the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year Award. Only time will tell.
