The Phillies this afternoon granted Francisco Rodriguez his unconditional release according to a tweet from NBC Sports Philly’s Jim Salisbury.
K-Rod, who was trying to revive his major league career, posted a 5.40 ERA in 6.2 innings of work. He allowed 11 hits, walking 8 and striking out 5. Opponents were hitting .367 against the long-time closer this spring.
K-Rod has 437 saves in his outstanding career as a closer, owning a 2.86 ERA.
