We all know Saquon Barkley is a special player with a whole lot of potential, but this past weekend at the NFL Draft Combine he really showed off his skills.
Here are some of the numbers from his showcase at the combine:
- 5’11” 233lbs
- 4.41 40 yard dash time
- 29 reps of 225lbs on the bench press
- 41″ vertical
- 1.54 10-yard split
These numbers from a guy his size are just absurd. To put those numbers in perspective, Saquon was stronger than Joe Thomas, quicker than DeSean Jackson, faster than Devin Hester, and jumps higher than Julio Jones. He managed to put together one of (if not) the best combine performances of all time. We all know this does not guarantee NFL success, but you have to admit that the man put on one hell of a performance.
He out performed any other RB in this Draft Class and is clearly the most talented player in this draft.
“I would punch myself in the nuts multiple times to be able to draft Saquon Barkley.” -Anonymous NFL Coach
As you can see by the quote above, teams want Saquon bad, he is one the greatest running back prospects in a long time so that’s not surprising. But the question here is, do the Browns want him that bad. If I was the GM of the Browns my answer to that question would be “hell yeah.” But we have all come to know how stupid the Browns can be.
The Browns hold the 1st and 4th picks in this Draft. Draft Saquon at number 1 and take select your next QB at 4. There are 4 QB’s that would be good picks (Allen, Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield), at #4 you will have at least 2 of them available to you. If I were the Browns this is exactly what I would do, drafting Barkley gives your offense life and that was one of Cleveland’s biggest problems, lack of offensive playmakers. After that, if (and this is a big if) they take a QB who ends up being their guy, that opens this offense up even more. That will give Josh Gordon a chance to go back to his old ways and having Barkley will spread the field really well. However, this is the Cleveland Browns we are talking about so most likely they will find a way to screw it up.
